About This Work

'Fides, Fidelitas et Cura' (Loyalty, Fidelity & Care) was composed by Michael Walters in response to a commission from the Defence Medical Welfare Service for an official quick march to be performed at formal occasions where members of the service are 'on parade'. The organisation provides practical and emotional support to military personnel, their registered dependents and entitled civilians, in operational and non-operational areas while they are in hospital.

The march comprises of a blend of contemporary and traditional. The initial two sections are spritely and cinematic in nature before yielding to an arrangement of the traditional hymn 'Holy Virgin by God's Decree'. This hymn melody is one of a number traditionally performed during the annual military pilgrimage to Lourdes and hence befitting of an organisation steeped in the virtues of care, compassion and healing."
