About This Work

Furst composed ‘Badonviller - March' for the Royal Bavarian Infantry Guard Regiment. The title refers to fighting on 12 August 2014 near Bandonviller in French Lorraine, where the regiment achieved a first victory against the French at the beginning of the First World War.

The march is often reported as Adolf Hitler's favourite and was played as his ‘Entrance Theme' whenever he made an appearance. It also features in newsreels of the time and often pasted into the audio track when appearances of Hitler were shown. For this reason, it is never played by German military bands today - which is a pity as it is a great march and one evocative of a bygone age.

The march starts with the ‘Deutsche Locken', which is often used and an introduction to German Marches.
